SFSA studio member Rich Reid: New Works on Paper at Charlton House - on Friday, January 28th, 2011.
A chance to see new works on paper by Rich Reid that explore the illusionary effects paint can portray while it hovers between abstraction and figuration. This experimental painter is playful too, with the materials, subjects, art history and painting itself.
Unlike many of his peers, Rich Reid does not work from photographs, but builds the pictures through memory, intuitively layering coloured and transparent marks with various tools.
Considered as works in their own right by the artist and certainly created as such, the works all inform the larger oil paintings that he is currently working on in the studio.
Washes of bright colours and more thickly applied acrylic-based paint hint at recognisable forms, and scenes that seem to fix in your eye one moment and dissolve the next.
On opening night only there will be a 10% discount.
