About Artist

I've had a slightly erratic career, embracing advertising, art college, painting, picture framing and mount cutting, working in museums and graphic design.

I went to Plymouth College of Art and Design for my Foundation and then to the Central School of Art and Design for my BA (1972-75). That was slap bang in the middle of the hard edge/conceptual style of painting and teaching so good in some respects but ask me to draw a dog or a horse and I'd be sweating . . .

After the Central I struggled to find work but ended up cutting mounts and framing in a workshop in Richmond for a while. From there I went to the British Museum (Dept of Ethnography) to work in their reserve collections and from there I made the most disastrous move of my working career by moving to the Horniman Museum where I was left to rot in their reserve collections which occupied a building near the southern entrance to the Blackwall Tunnel.

I dug myself out of that job and became a Media Resources Officer at an ILEA college in Woolwich where I developed my photographic and graphic career by moving firstly to the BT in-house studio at Old Street then Hill Samuel Financial Services (then in Croydon) where I ran a small studio.

I've been freelance for 20+ years doing almost anything and everything you can think of regarding graphics (and photography for a while), but for the past few years I've been producing mainly books.

All the while I've been painting, taking photographs etc etc, but for long periods this has been on the back burner, sometimes even put in the freezer to be reheated from time to time . . .

Recently I had a bit of luck getting into open exhibitions (last time I exhibited was circa 1980 . . .) so I thought I'd commit myself to 'artistic pursuits' a bit more – so here I am . . . look forward to meeting all of you.
