Matthew Wood
Co-Director and Founder/Co-Owner of Second Floor Studios & Arts Ltd and Second Floor Studios CIC.
Matthew founded Second Floor Studios & Arts in 1997 with Kelvin O'Mard, when they met at Goldsmiths University. Since 2013, alongside co-owner and CEO, Nichole Herbert Wood, he has been strategically investing to secure long-term leases and acquisitions, primarily targeting affordable artists’ studio workspaces, aiming to strive to offer both security and perpetuity, setting the stage for generations of creative communities to flourish and innovate. Matthew launched no format Gallery in 2011, a dynamic, interdisciplinary space, designed to bolster a diverse array of creatives. Matthew is a founding member of LAASN www.lassn.co.uk, an alliance of affordable artist studio providers, representing over 1 million sq ft of space and 1 in 3 artists in London.

Nichole Herbert Wood

Nichole is a resourceful and dedicated proponent for the provision of genuinely affordable workspace for the visual arts. 2027 will see SFSA operating 7 studio sites, 69,000 sft, 220 studios, supporting 300 artists.
Nichole has made an important contribution to the definition of affordability through a piece of social economics linking studio pricing back to income levels. (HAF), applicable anywhere in the world. google for FT article covering HAF. She is also working on innovative finance solutions for the sector.
